I left after an hour and a half of class tired and and a tad sore, but I can't wait to go back and learn some more.
i had the opportunity to train with these guys once. they are great instructors and very friendly. May have to take time out of my busy life to visit again. also have friends that have trained with them and have nothing bad to say. all around great place and people.
When my wife and I searched the local community for Martial Art programs that would help my son build confidence to combat verbally abusive classmates in the third grade. The thought of him accidentally injuring several classmates in response to a physical attack wasn't pleasant.
Knowing that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focused on avoiding strikes and immobilizing an attacker we think it was the best choice. Since the first class, which always includes a brief session about bullying, we both have been impressed with the change in our son. His grappling, self-defense, and ability to deal with abusers has increased significantly. As a bonus his physical fitness has also greatly improved. Great White Martial Arts definitely focuses on safety, fun, and teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
My wife and I are visiting family in the area and I dropped by hoping to work out some. Everyone was helpful and friendly. The instructor answered my questions and several of the students were very helpful when practicing new techniques. Great White Martial Arts seems to be much more focused on mastering fundamentals than learning crazy, impractical submissions and combinations.
This is really a great gym. I learn SO MUCH and it includes exceptional amounts of fun in the learning process. When I first started I was a little scared, but Mr. Garret (the instructor), Mr. Ryan (also instructor) and Ms. Kristy (again instructor) worked with me, I made a few friends and after some time I took my first belt test, and it went great. Long story short, I learned a lot, made friends and had fun.
I started training at Great White Martial Arts when I was 18 years old in December '08. I had ZERO martial arts or wrestling experience and I was very intimidated at first. I have since come a long way in both grappling ability and overall coordination. My busy schedule over the past 2.5 years has kept my training to a minimum, but whenever I am able to make it into Great White I am always welcomed back by a great group of friends. I have been preparing for and am planning to take my blue belt test this October. Garrett Erickson is a great guy and a phenomenal instructor and I couldn't be happier that I decided to stick with jiu-jitsu.
